These Boots are Made for Summer Strollin'

British Summer is a tricky creature, we can stare out of our windows and check the forecast all we want, but let's be honest; it's just as likely to chuck it down as it is have a heatwave. On second thoughts, we're more likely to have the former!

Which is why the trend for summer boots is going to be a long-running one! For those days where you resent dragging out your winter wardrobe, yet the weather seems determined to be windy and spitting with rain, summer boots are the perfect way to compromise with the seasons without compromising your style.

It's been hard to escape the popularity of summer boots, with them becoming a firm celebrity favourite. not a day goes by without a shorts-and-boots combo all over the glossies. However, if you're not a shorts person, then the versatility of boots means that dressing them with casual jeans or even floral-print dresses is guaranteed to get the seal of approval from the fash-pack.

Not to mention that when there is that occasional cloudburst, late school run or even a dodgy footpath and your girlfriends are struggling along in flimsy high-summer wear, you can afford to feel a bit smug!

Penelope Cruz
You may not be a dedicated follower of film, but the chances are you are a dedicated follower of fashion! In which case, you've probably seen the coverage of one of the biggest events in the film calender. That's right, Cannes Film Festival, the 11 day movie celebration has launched.
Cheryl Cole

Newspapers and magazines alike have been smothered with glossy photos of the biggest celebs traipsing the red carpet in all sorts of mouth-watering couture.

The big winners this year have been the ever-elegant Penelope Cruz (promoting Pirates of the Carribean 4) and Cheryl Cole; the latter of which has caused such a stir that she's been inundated with offers from major film studios.

But the great thing fashion-wise, about gatherings such as this is the sheer range of looks and styles for us to drool over!

Painting the Town Red...and Sparkly!

Summer nights is not just a cheesy song from 'Grease', but for us girls as Keith Scarrott it's also our favourite part of the year. With sunny days stretching into warm, light evenings the inclination to go out on the town grows. Whether it be for just a meal and a few drinks with friends, or an evening that will probably last longer than the average working day (and is infinitely more enjoyable)!

The upside of all this? Well, the fashion choices just get better and better! No longer are we confined to thick tights, heavy winter coats and sensible shoes, should we dare to venture out the door. With no ice and snow around (for the moment) and very little chance that your toes will turn blue, we can go crazy for stylish shoes.

For something that will blow everybody out of the water (and means you only have to put minimal effort in with an LBD) these incredible crystal-encrusted red platforms (£129.95 HERE) are The Ones. With a cage-effect around the foot and supportive platform sole they are party shoes you can actually dance in! Of course, you can always just say you were born to wear heels.

The matching bag  (£139.95 HERE) rounds the look off to perfection.

If you're still uber-glam, yet red really isn't your colour, then these chic strappy heels in bronze and black (£149.95 HERE) will tone with any look and become the staple of your shoe collection. A girl can't have enough shoes like these! With elastic straps criss-crossing over the foot, you'll be as supported in these as you are with even lace ups. Already a firm favourite in-store, it's tie to snap them up before they're all gone.

If you're looking something more laid-back and bang on the summer trend, then these pretty platforms (149.95 HERE) are just the ticket. Echoing the 70s vibe that is swirling around the high-street at the moment; these shoes come in natural tan and beige suede colours.

With wooden stack heels, canvas platforms and just a touch of sparkle on the toe, these stunning sandals created a massive stir when they came into stock. In fact they're so comfortable, a couple of us even work all day in them...so a night of dancing should be no problem!

There are loads more in-store but for now, I'm going to give you a breather - just to process all this gorgeousness. I know I'm going to have to schedule more nights out to show them all off! Now where's my diary...?

'Notice Me' Neon

Lanvin pumps £285
There's been a fashionable resurgence of late, which is completely at odds with the prescribed 'vintage-revival' vibe as dictated by the fashion heavy-weights at Chanel, Chloe and Marc Jacobs.

Slowly but surely sparks of neon-bright colour are being drawn into the summer wardrobes of thousands of women. Especially in shoes.

Brian Attwood loafers £225
Perhaps it's the remainder of  fluorescents in last summer's futuristic and slightly space-age designs (Judy Jetson-style as we termed it) . Maybe it's an on-going reaction to the advice from last winter that we should all 'colour-block, dahling' - I don't know about you, but it's an epic quest to find any sort of print in my wardrobe now!

But personally, I think it's all about Summer. It's a season that evokes more rays of sunshine, literally and metaphorically, than any other. Why should we be kept in dowdy, neutral colours when  we feel like we should let loose?!

Summer holidays, trips to town and lazy days in the garden mean that we're allowed to have fun with our style. Mixing and matching for convenience or fun, mean that we can experiment. And even the most reticent of women can feel 100% more fabulous if she is wearing something that makes her smile.

The easiest way to experiment with neon is to find an everyday staple and change it up, and what's more 'every day' than the humble ballet pump. We all have them sitting in our wardrobes, just waiting to pick up the slack on any outfit.

With these cute pumps from Keith Scarrott, not only are they in fabulous colours but the style is so obviously pretty! (£89.95 HERE) At a snip compared to most designer prices, they will take you through all summer, whether with flirty skirts, shorts, linens, crops, skinnies... Well, the list goes on.

Have some summer fun and give neon a go! You know you'll want people to notice them.
